Hi there!

It's becoming that time of year when a Saturday night is joyfully spent staying in, reading that good book, and chowing down on pumpkin pie and sipping warm apple cider. At least, that's what I'd rather do than a night out, aha. When it's cold outside and the sky is gray, there's nothing better than snuggling up and indulging in a good story.

Because I've been reading quite a lot lately (I say "a lot" lightly), and because it's finally cozy season, I thought I'd share some of my favorite books that are perfect for a cozy day-in with a side of, you guessed it, apple cider (I love apple cider.)

And of course, there's nothing more mindful than reading a book, right? (Maybe meditating, but that's beside the point.)

1. The Nightengale by Kristen Hannah

The Nightengale is an exceptional historical fiction that although is long, could be read in one sitting. It's that good. Set in WWII, this book centers on two French sisters who find their country invaded by the Germans. The younger sister runs off to help the war as a spy/messenger, while the older sister, who stays to protect her daughter while her husband goes to war, takes care of a quartering soldier.

I read this book nearly 2 years ago while on a cruise, and I loved every bit of it. I've never read much historical fiction, and I still don't, but I remember every detail of this book, and to this day, the thought of it it still tugs at my heart. If you like a good romance, thrill, or just want a good historical fiction, please pick up this book.

2. The Silent Wife by A. S. Harrison

The Silent Wife is a story that focuses in on a "married" couple that has found themselves in a rocky place. There's an affair, a lack of communication, dark pasts, and later on, murder.

I'm actually still reading this and am just over halfway, but because it's so hooking and the writing is simply spectacular, I had to include it. If you love a good eerie, thrilling mystery, check out this book.

3. Elevation by Stephen King

An ordinary man in a small town has begun losing weight, but not really. His waist size remains the same, his eating habits and physical activity unchanging, and yet he's losing a pound a day, and nobody knows why.

I finished this book recently in just one sitting. Standing at just 144 pages, this book was quick and easy to read, yet it was probably the deepest book I've ever come across. King did a fantastic job at this small-town story with a supernatural twist.

4. Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum

This book is a typical YA romance that is just different enough to be easily remembered. It centers around a girl who goes to a new school and of course, doesn't know anyone. She receives a message from a mysterious guy who goes to her school and helps her navigate her way, without revealing his identity. And eventually, simply through online messaging, he becomes a love interest. The entire book, really, is her trying to figure out who this guy is.

Tell Me Three Things was probably the best romance I've ever read. Maybe. Probably. I remember reading it in high school, staying up late into the night wondering who the main character was going to choose. Who is this mysterious guy? If you're anything like me, then you know that every now and then, a good YA fiction is a necessity. This book is the perfect read for any cozy day.

5. Stolen by Lucy Christopher

If you've known me long enough, you've surely heard me talk about this book at least once. Stolen is about a girl who gets kidnapped and taken to Australia, where her captor lives. Told as a letter, which has been written after everything has happened, Stolen touches on the topic of Stockholm Syndrome as the main character, Gemma, retells the story and deals with her growing emotions toward her captor. Surely, it sounds darker and more disturbing than it really is. Stolen is a lovely novel that everyone should read. I've read it three times, all in one sitting.

I hope y'all enjoyed these book recommendations. After writing this, I've realized how little I've actually read this year. With 7 books left on my 2019 reading goal, I'm making it a point to read as much as I can until the year is over!

Probably writing,
